Preston's research focuses on rational decision making, the value of life, and the ethics of new technologies. He is currently writing a book about how logic and analytic philosophy can aid in spiritual awakening. He was previously a tenured associate professor of philosophy at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, which he left in 2022 to focus on writing for the public. He now lives in the Bay Area.
